In our second instalment of the Lighthouse project Industrie 4.0 we take a look at digital retrofitting. A crucial issue for many manufacturers that want to upgrade their machines and be able to be part of the Internet of Things, yet don’t want to buy new equipment. Thanks to digital retrofitting, it is possible for machine parks to be fitted with sensors and connectors to gather and communicate essential data to the cloud.

Manufacturers can now have more control over the production and maintenance cycles. A good overall capturing of your machines data will allow for predictive maintenance. Knowing when and where machines need service will keep overall downtimes low and increases production time.

The collected data also allows for more internet-based services to be created. As an ecological bonus, none of these machines needs to be thrown away and can keep on working.

There are plenty of more uses of digital retrofitting. If you think you might benefit from a digital retrofit project or need help & knowledge about the subject, go to the Swiss Smart Factory Page and contact us.
